Inaugural E.R.I.C. Huck Cancer Colorado - May 25, 2015 - Boulder, CO (Pleasant View)

What: Huck Cancer is a one-day hat tournament that brings players from pro, club, and rec leagues together for a good cause.

Where: Pleasant View Soccer Complex, 3805 47th St, Boulder, CO 80301

Why: E.R.I.C. is a non-profit organization that teaches cancer symptoms awareness, cancer prevention, and the importance of being active through Ultimate Frisbee. Money raised at Huck Cancer Colorado will be used for youth outreach about cancer awareness in the Boulder/Denver area. E.R.I.C. is joining forces with GRUPY & Grass Roots Ultimate (Boulder, CO) and Colorado's first AUDL team to host the 1st Annual Huck Cancer Colorado!

Registration: Open now! $25 (includes t-shirt) After registering, you'll be set up with tools to raise an additional amount. We have a goal that each player raises $50 prior to the day of the event. Visit the Huck Cancer Colorado website to register.

Grass Roots Ultimate is looking for a charity to partner up with us for this summer's Annual GRUB fundraiser tournament. Apply between Feb 15 and March 30.  If you have a charity in mind that would appeal to the values of the ultimate community we encourage you to submit an application (link below).  If you have trouble or questions about the application process, please email the board directly.

Note to team captains: team bid information will be posted in the spring.

Advice on applying:
  • GRU is looking for charities where a $10k donation will make a real impact for the organization.
  • Have an active GRU member be the sponsor associated with the charity (not a requirement but it makes the logistics on every level easier).
  • The charity serves the front range community.
  • Most importantly, the charity must demonstrate a willingness to make GRUB a success by using their own resources to find donations for food and prizes, help deliver items, selling merchandise, and help with trash/recycling duties.  In return GRU pledges to work to raise awareness and funds for of your cause.

State of GRU 2015

As GRU enters our 24th year of Ultimate in the Colorado front range we recognize the constantly changing landscape of our community. It is an exciting time in Ultimate, as the sport continues to grow in a variety of ways. We are rising to the challenges as an organization to be an active part of that growth.

In 2015 GRU looks to continue running our foundational spring and fall weekend mixed leagues. The heart and soul of our community, mixed summer, will be returning to the beloved Pleasant View field complex! GRU will continue to grow spring and fall weeknight leagues in Longmont as well.

Our youth program, GRUPY, seeks to strengthen its own program foundation. Camps, clinics, league, and outreach have created opportunities for hundreds of kids to participate in Ultimate. But demand is growing and GRU is devoted to investing in our youth. GRU will be forming a Youth Program Development Committee to help direct and build the program. If you are interested in learning more about serving on this committee, please complete the Youth Program (GRUPY) Development Committee form by February 9th.

We also recognize the importance of supporting women’s program development. GRU will be forming a Women’s Program Development Committee to help develop and build playing opportunities for women, spanning the spectrum from new to experienced players. If you are interested in learning more about serving on this committee, please complete the Women’s Program Development Committee form by February 9th.

As GRU grows and invests further in our sport, it becomes essential that our organization functions like a healthy business. This will require enough resources to continue running the programs we have come to count on and allow us to branch out into areas that have been underserved. GRU’s 2014 Financial Report demonstrates the need to re-evaluate league fees and tournament costs in order to assure our continued success.

The GRU organization aims to run like a well oiled machine. Our volunteers donate time and energy into making our leagues run smoothly. But we are always looking for more help, and this year we will need more volunteers if we are to achieve our goals. If you are interested in volunteering for GRU, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form.

On a personal note, the GRU community helped me feel at home in Boulder. It is a great honor to serve such a dynamic, enthusiastic, and passionate community of players. I will do my best to do the same for you.

Looking forward to an exciting 2015.

Hammers, hucks, & high-fives,

Joe Mulder
GRU President
